Römisches Reich Silber Siegelring mit Karneol-Amor-Intaglio.

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. Roman silver seal ring with carnelian intaglio featuring a finely detailed Amor playing a lyre. The ring band is crafted from twisted silver wire, forming a rope-like design. The bezel border mirrors this twisted style, framing the intaglio securely and decoratively. Outside diameter: ± 27,5 mm Inside diameter: ± 22,1 x 17,4 mm Bezel: ± 13,7 mm Condition: good and solid condition, wearable. High quality intaglio. Signs of wear consistent with an ancient artefact. Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format). This type of ring was common in the Roman Imperial period and may have served not only as jewellery but also as a personal seal, pressed into wax to mark ownership or correspondence. CARNELIAN stone was treasured throughout the Greco-Roman antiquity. Like the Egyptians they believed carnelian had magical powers; it was believed it could ward off evil, help the blood circulation and make the skin look healthy and youthful. Carnelian was often worn by Roman soldiers to boost their courage, vitality, confidence and physical powers. For women it was especially worn to improve fertility, cure frigidity and to help strengthen the body before and after childbirth. MATERIAL This object has been carefully examined with regard to its material composition and surface characteristics. Specialised laboratory analysis such as metallurgical testing (e.g. XRF) is not routinely undertaken in private collecting and is more commonly associated with academic or institutional research. Destructive testing methods (such as acid testing) permanently damage the object’s surface and are not appropriate for archaeological material. Historically, modern hallmarking systems did not exist. The alloy composition of gold and silver could vary depending on local resources, trade networks, recycling practices and prevailing economic conditions.
