Altägyptisch Schiefer Kosmetikpalette, 8 x 11 cm

This is an oval-shaped cosmetic palette carved from schist, which is very simple compared to others of the period. The main purpose of any cosmetic trowel would have been practical, as it would have served as a base for crushing various minerals, such as galena or malachite (used to make the popular kohl), and turning them into facial paints. However, numerous examples found in tombs reveal that they were never used, so that a distinction can be made between purely functional palettes and ceremonial palettes (although they may have been used exceptionally). The latter type could be included in the repertoire of prestige goods held by the Egyptian elite. Provenance: Classical Archaeology F. Cervera, Spain, 2014; Former Pablo H. Goizauskas Collection, Spain, 2022–2025 Exhibited: "Deciphering Ancient Egypt Tutankhamun", Casa de la Ciencia (Seville, 15/09/2019-15/07/2020) / Ifergan Collection, Málaga (2018-2020) Statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged.
