KUSHAN Keramik Seltenes großes Kushan-Keramikgefäß mit bemalten Motiven - 100–400 n. Chr.

Rare Large Kushan Ceramic Vessel with Painted Motifs – 1st–4th Century CE – 39 x 30 cm – 8.01 kg Description: An exceptionally large and rare ceramic vessel from the Kushan Empire, dating to the 1st–4th century CE. This impressive jar is distinguished by its wide, globular body and short, flaring rim, with the surface adorned in painted figural and symbolic motifs in earthy red and black tones. Decorative bands encircle the upper shoulder and rim, featuring floral and anthropomorphic designs, along with stylised animal figures and auspicious symbols, including an early form of the swastika, a sacred emblem associated with solar energy, continuity, and good fortune across South and Central Asian traditions. The vessel shows extensive wear and repair consistent with its age and size. Restoration is visible in multiple areas where painted decoration has been sympathetically retouched and large fragments reassembled. Despite this, many original elements of the intricate iconography remain clearly visible. Dimensions: 39 cm (height) x 30 cm (diameter) Weight: 8.01 kg Condition: Professionally restored from large fragments. Overpainting and surface infill present. Traces of original pigments well preserved in several panels. Provenance: From an old European collection, acquired prior to 1990. Documentation available upon request. Notes: The Kushan Empire, which flourished in the region spanning present-day northern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia, was a melting pot of Greco-Roman, Persian, and Indian influences. Ceramics from this period are rare and typically associated with ritual or elite domestic use. This piece exemplifies the artistic syncretism and symbolic depth of Kushan visual culture. ----------- CUSTOMS *** On orders outside the EU a customs fee will be applied upon arrival to the country of the buyer*** heavily restored with added material to fill up the lacking parts - but of highly decorative and historical value
