At the base, finely crafted bamboo leaves add a naturalistic touch to the composition. The lions and bamboo elements are separately cast and designed to be removable, fitting into designated holes on the rock base. This feature highlights the craftsmanship and attention to detail typical of Japanese metalwork of the era. The parent lion bears an engraved signature on its underside, though it is partially worn and difficult to decipher. Lions, or shishi, are symbolic creatures in Japanese art, representing protection, courage, and the warding off of evil spirits. This piece combines these auspicious motifs with an intricate design that captures both the strength of the parent and the liveliness of the cubs. There are signs of age, including surface wear, small scratches, discoloration, and areas of patina and verdigris, which add to the sculpture’s character and sense of history. Overall, it is a fine decorative and symbolic piece of Japanese metalwork from the Showa period. Dimensions: approx. H 43.5 cm W 39 cm D 27cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
