Exceptional set of 12 engraved essays showing King Carol II of Romania, in two denominations – 25 bani and 10 lei – each printed in various colours on ungummed paper.
All are imperforate essays, produced in extremely limited numbers at the State Printing Works in Bucharest for presentation and approval by the King himself, who was known for his personal passion for philately and his involvement in design selection.
- 12 different colour varieties, finely engraved.
- Denomination present on all values – confirming they are final-stage proofs, not mere colour trials.
- Superb impression and detail, engraved royal portraits in profile, inspired by official court photography.
- Historical importance: King Carol II, one of the world’s most notable royal stamp collectors, oversaw the artistic direction of several Romanian issues, including these essays.
