Yamada Yoshitaka - Chawan - Töpferware - Black Oribe Teeschale

"The earth dances, the flames dance, and eventually, a life is born." — From the artist's philosophy. This is a powerful Black Oribe Tea Bowl (Chawan) created by the renowned potter Yamada Yoshitaka The Technique: Hikidashi-guro (Pulled Black) This bowl features a deep, lustrous black glaze known as "Hikidashi-guro." The artist pulls the red-hot bowl directly from the kiln at the peak of firing and cools it rapidly. This dramatic temperature shock creates a glossy, wet-look black surface that feels like solidified obsidian. The Shape: Kutsu-gata (Shoe Shape) The form is intentionally distorted into an oval shape known as "Kutsu-gata," a style favored by the legendary samurai teamaster Furuta Oribe. This bold deformation fits surprisingly well in the hands and offers a different expression from every angle. It is a masterpiece that balances "Wabi-sabi" with modern dynamism. The contrast between the jet-black glaze and the bright green of Matcha tea will be breathtaking. [Condition] Excellent vintage condition. No visible chips or cracks. Comes with the original signed wooden box (Tomobako) and the artist's biography pamphlet. [Size] Width: Approx. 13 cm x 14 cm (5.1 in x 5.5 in) *Oval shape Height: Approx. 8 cm (3.1 in) [Included Items] Tea Bowl (Chawan) Original Wooden Box (Tomobako) with Calligraphy Artist Biography Pamphlet [Artist: Yamada Yoshitaka] Born in 1950 in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture (the heart of Mino ware). He creates pottery at the historic site of the Mino Teirin-ji Temple ruins. Selected: Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, Chunichi International Ceramic Art Exhibition, etc.
