Bronzezeit Bronze Zweirad-Wagen-Statuette

A fine two-wheeled Bronze Age bronze cart statuette, featuring a single shaft. The shaft is an extension of the framework of the body resembling a few crossed wooden stakes. A rider is featured at the top of each large wheel with hands extended, boxing in the products which would have been hauled. The statuette resembles a cart which would have been used for the transportation of freight, agricultural produce, refuse and people. It would have been drawn by a single animal including; oxen, mules and horses. Earthly encrustations and patination to the surface. Wear over time, slight break between the main bar connected to the wheel. In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Measurements: L 6.2cm x W 3.2cm x H 3.9 cm Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present. N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
