Extremely rare ceramic golf themed storage box designed by Christian Dior. A great pearl of a gift for a golf enthousiast who essentially already has everything. Was part of a two set that included an ashtray in the style of the legendary 1969 Spiros Ashtray by Artemide with a ceramic golf ball. Unfortunately the ashtray broke. This all ceramic (inclusive of the golf ball on top) box was intended as a cigar box but doubles perfectly as a box for jewellery, pens, keys, bank notes, important papers, etc. Made from painted and glazed ceramics. The box is extremely rare and we have not come across any others anywhere making us believe it was probably part of a limited edition (commission) set made only once in a certain year. The Christian Dior marking is on the bottom side of the lid. The lost ashtray had the same marking. Christian Dior will in its turn have had it made in one of the many of the ceramic workshops in France. It is very well made with strong glazing. In view of the limited number of these that were made the grass decoration was probably largely if not fully applied by hand. Period: 1980s or 1990s. Height is without the ball on top. Diameter ball is 3.4 centimeters. Condition: Mint condition. Apart from some faint rubbing traces on the unglazed standing bottom rim the box is in damage, stain and scratch free condition all around.
