A large Chinese Imari and gilt porcelain baluster 'Double Peacock' vase mounted as a lamp. China, early 18th century, ca. 1715-1725, early Qing dynasty, late Kangxi (1662-1722, 康熙) to early Yongzheng period. Rare example, particularly in such size and condition! Of baluster form, finely painted in Imari palette: blue and iron-red enamels enriched with gilt, continuous garden scene depicting two peacocks in sepia and richly gilt, perching on a blue pierced rock-work amongst large branched flowering peony, all below a ruyi-head shaped lappet band enclosing white scrolling chrysanthemums on the iron-red ground. A band of stylized lappets above the foot. Later fitted for electricity Daylight pictures included. Dimensions: total height - 38,8 cm; height of the porcelain - 26 cm; diameter of the porcelain - c. 14 cm. Weight - 1739 g. Provenance: private collection, France, area of Lyon. According to the present owner the vase was in family property at least from mid XX century, possible longer. References: similar or similarly decorated vases sold by a major auction houses - last pictures. Conditions report: porcelain in excellent condition, no damages visible. Even gilding preserved in excellent condition, with minimal wear in places. Minor firing faults. Strong white light tested. Not examined under mounts. Wear to gilding on bronzes. Electric not tested.
