Dr. C. Snouck Hurgronje - Mekka II - 1889

Rare Author: Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1857–1936) was a Dutch islamologist and orientalist. He specialized in Islam and daily life in Muslim countries. As an advisor to the colonial administration, he played an important role in the Netherlands Indies. Mekka by Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje is a groundbreaking work on the Islamic world, particularly about the city of Mecca. As one of the first Westerners to gain access to this holy city, Snouck Hurgronje meticulously described in German the daily life, religious rituals, and social structures of Mecca at the end of the 19th century. He used his knowledge of the Arabic language and culture to make in-depth observations. The book offers unique insights into the Hajj (pilgrimage), the role of religious leaders, and the influence of foreign powers in the region. Through its combination of ethnography, anthropology, and religious studies, Mekka is still regarded as a classic in Islamic studies and Orientalism. It remains a very relevant book, also valuable and useful for our time. Author: Christian Snouck Hurgronje Title: Mecca, II From Today's Life Mekka by Dr. C.
