Comic Auction (Original Artwork Area Performance Lucca Comics & Games)
Area Performance, the space that for 20 years Lucca Comics & Games dedicated to fantasy art, will donate the proceeds of the auction to the charity Emergency, in aid of a paediatric centre in a refugee camp in Mayo, Sudan. Some of the works from the greatest artists, cartoonists, fantasy and science fiction illustrators from all over the world will be auctioned off in aid of Emergency. For its 20th anniversary, Area Performance, the space where cartoon and fantasy artists perform live during the Lucca Comics & Games event, will auction a series of magnificent original artwork. All the pieces offered have been produced during the event. The proceeds of this auction will go to Emergency, the humanitarian association founded in Milan in 1994 to bring help to civilian victims of war and poverty. The funds raised will go to the Mayo Pediatric Centre in Sudan. According to the ranking of the United Nations Human Development Index, Sudan is ranked 167th out of 188 countries. Armed conflicts continue to threaten the security of the country and have caused the displacement of over two million people. Almost half of the population live below the poverty line and one in six children is malnourished. Emergency started working in Sudan in 2004 and opened the Pediatric Centre in the Mayo refugee camp in 2005, a few kilometres away from the capital Khartoum, to offer free treatment for children up to 14 years old. It’s estimated that the Mayo camp is inhabited by 500,000 people and more than half of the population is composed by children under 14 years old. Living conditions within the camp are at the limit of survival. Born from the initiative of Lucca Comics & Games, the event that every autumn brings hundreds of thousands of comic, board game, video game, illustration, cosplay, fantasy and science fiction fans to Lucca, the ONLUS Area Performance Association every year invites the best Italian and international artists to paint and draw live at the event. The donated works will be auctioned and the proceeds given to charity. In this auction is possible to find some of the most interesting works made at Lucca Comics & Games event in 2017.
