Neoclassical School omgeving/gesigneerd Appiani (1754-1817). Johannes de doper predikend. Olieverf op doek. Gedoubleerd. Afmeting inclusief lijst 83x98 cm. Het schilderij en de lijst hebben ouderdomssporen. 

Sfeervol en verfijnd olieverfschilderij op doek, voorstellende een religieuze scène met Johannes de Doper als centrale figuur. De heilige is afgebeeld zittend in een natuurlijk landschap, gekleed in zijn kenmerkende eenvoudige gewaad, terwijl hij met opgeheven hand een groep luisteraars toespreekt.

De compositie straalt rust en harmonie uit en is uitgevoerd in een zachte, warme kleurenpalette, typerend voor de neoklassieke traditie. De figuren zijn elegant gemodelleerd en tonen een duidelijke academische invloed, met aandacht voor balans en expressie.

Het werk is gesigneerd “Appiani”, verwijzend naar de stijl van de Italiaanse neoklassieke schilder Andrea Appiani (1754–1817), bekend om zijn verfijnde religieuze en historische voorstellingen.

Het schilderij kan worden gesitueerd binnen de Italiaanse school, 18e/19e eeuw, en is een mooi voorbeeld van devotionele kunst uit deze periode of een latere interpretatie in deze traditie.
