Masque de hibou

Hauteur : 50 centimètres.

Très beau masque de hibou aveugle, qui provient de l'ethnie des Bembe (RDC).
Le masque de hibou apparaissait à l'occasion des cérémonies de circoncision de la société Bwani; il était utilisé pour l'initiation des jeunes hommes.
Certains étaient portés mais d'autres étaient accrochés sur des arbres (d'où vient probablement le nom de hibou) pour indiquer le chemin du champ de circoncision; il n'avait donc pas besoin d'être équipé d'yeux.

Très belle patine.

Le certificat d'origine et d'authenticité de la galerie auprès de laquelle a été acquis l'objet sera joint à l'envoi.
