This item is a 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics commemorative medal designed by Taro Okamoto.

Event: XI Olympic Winter Games (Sapporo ’72, Japan)
Design:
     Front: Abstract art face design by Taro Okamoto (famous Japanese avant-garde artist, also designer of the “Tower of the Sun”).
     Back: Inscription “XI Olympic Winter Games Sapporo ’72 Japan” with Olympic Rings and “S.A.J. N.S.U.J.” (Ski Association of Japan, Nippon Ski University Japan).
Packaging: White case with red velvet lining, featuring the Sapporo ’72 official logo (red sun, snowflake, and Olympic rings).
Condition: Medal itself looks in very good condition; the case shows some wear, small scratches, and slight gaps when closed.

This is not a winner’s medal, but an official commemorative medal produced as a collectible during the 1972 Games, making it a nice historical Olympic souvenir.
