Oiseau-Soleil combineert twee terugkerende motieven in Corneilles werk: de vogel en de zon. De vogel wordt vaak gezien als symbool van vrijheid en beweging, terwijl de zon warmte, licht en levensenergie uitstraalt. Door het gebruik van felle kleuren en een vereenvoudigde, bijna kinderlijke vormgeving ontstaat een vrolijke, dromerige compositie. Het werk past bij Corneilles CoBrA-achtergrond, waarin spontaniteit en intuïtie belangrijker zijn dan realisme.


Corneille (1922–2010) was medeoprichter van de CoBrA-beweging en een belangrijk vernieuwer binnen de naoorlogse kunst. Zijn werk ontwikkelde zich van abstract naar figuratief, met terugkerende thema’s als vogels, vrouwen en bloemen. Deze kleurrijke zeefdruk is een mooi voorbeeld van zijn latere stijl.
