Rarissima prima edizione, autografata dall'autore, di questo trattato di oculistica sull'oftalmia purulenta epidemica che aveva imperversato negli eserciti in Europa all'inizio del XIX secolo. 

Pierre Florio fu primario dell'ospedale militare di San Pietroburgo e questo libro è il frutto delle osservazioni da lui effettuate là tra il 1835 e il 1839, dove riuscì a curare più di 9000 pazienti.

Esemplare con carte in condizioni complessivamente molto buone.

Legatura coeva in mezza pelle con titolo e fregi in oro al dorso, molto ben conservata. Fogli di guardia bianchi. 

Prestigiosa provenienza: copia appartenuta al conte Cesare Saluzzo (1778-1853), con etichetta ex-libris e dedica autografa dell'autore. Nato a Torino, fu Rettore dell'Università torinese, Comandante generale dell'Accademia Militare e governatore dei figli di Carlo Alberto.
