Rare 19th Century probably Portuguese Filigree Enamel Silver Jewellery Box – Exceptional Antique

Description
This exquisite jewellery box is an example of 19th century filigree craftsmanship, decorated with vibrant enamel (cloisonné) work.

The filigree technique involves drawing silver wire (sometimes gold-plated) to an extremely fine gauge, weaving it into lace-like patterns, and soldering each joint by hand at around 800°C. A single piece may require thousands of such soldering operations, showcasing the remarkable skill and patience of the artisan.

The delicate openwork is further enhanced by deep blue enamel accents, creating a striking contrast between the intricate silver filigree and the rich colour.
