Brass electric kettle designed by Peter Behrens for AEG, model 42512, circa 1909, in excellent condition with minimal wear, measuring 20 cm high, 20 cm wide and 20 cm in diameter, made in Germany by AEG Lichttechnik in the Jugendstil transitioning toward Proto-Modernism with an early industrial design provenance.

RARE AEG ELECTRIC KETTLE – PETER BEHRENS, c. 1909

Landmark of Early Industrial Design / Jugendstil / Proto-Modernism
An exceptional and rare electric kettle designed by Peter Behrens for AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft) circa 1909. This is one of the earliest examples of industrial design applied to domestic electric appliances. The kettle bears the original factory signature: 42512.
Designer: Peter Behrens (1868–1940), regarded as the father of industrial design and corporate identity; mentor to Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
Manufacturer: AEG, Berlin
Year: c. 1909
Signature: 42512, stamped under base
Style: Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) transitioning toward early modernism
The kettle is in very good condition considering its age. A beautiful, even patina has developed on the metal surface. Minor signs of wear consistent with age. Electrical components not including – offered as a collector's object or museum piece, not as a functional appliance.
Historical Importance:
This object exemplifies Peter Behrens’ groundbreaking role as the first industrial designer in history. As AEG’s artistic advisor, he applied design coherence to everything from buildings to products, forging a new synergy between form and function. This kettle is one of the earliest known domestic electrical appliances created under such principles – predating Bauhaus by a decade.
