Exceptional Japanese Hina Dolls by Nozawaya Yokohama – Taisho Period – Emperor & Empress Pair – - Silk, Wood, fabric - Japan - Taishō period (1912-1926)

This is an exceptional pair of traditional Japanese Hina dolls (Emperor and Empress), produced by Nozawaya of Yokohama, a highly regarded doll workshop active during the Taisho period (1912–1926). The dolls display refined facial expressions finished in traditional gofun, elegant posture, and richly layered silk garments. The Empress is adorned with an ornate metal headdress and holds a folding fan, while the Emperor wears formal court attire and carries a ceremonial sword. Each figure is presented on its original individual base, reflecting the high-quality craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility of early 20th-century Japan. Condition Considering their age, the dolls are in good condition. Due to age-related natural deterioration, some decorative threads securing small accessories (such as the Empress’s fan) have loosened. The dolls are therefore very delicate and should be handled with care. No repairs, reattachments, or restorations have been made, and the dolls remain in original condition. Shipping & handling The original wooden storage box is not included due to international shipping weight limitations. During packing, each doll and base will be carefully packed separately, and accessories will be individually protected using modern cushioning materials to prevent movement or stress during transport. This pair represents an authentic and refined example of Taisho-period Japanese Hina doll craftsmanship, suitable for collectors of Japanese art, antique dolls, or traditional seasonal objects. Dimensions Empress doll (Ohina-sama) Height: 14.5 cm Width: 14.5 cm Depth: 13 cm Fan length: 3.5 cm Weight (doll): 77 g Base: 18 × 13 × 6.5 cm (124 g) Emperor doll (Odairi-sama) Height: 12 cm Width: 14.5 cm Depth: 11 cm Sword length: 11 cm Weight (doll): 75 g Base: 18 × 13 × 6 cm (116 g) Total weight (excluding wooden box): approx. 392 g Condition Good condition considering age.
