Description from the seller
The complete 24-piece composer series from publisher J.H. Gottmer in Haarlem.
A large number of authors contributed to this series of biographies. The series was edited by Jos van Leeuwen.
The books provide a fascinating overview of three centuries of European music history. Each part is richly illustrated with portraits, manuscripts, documents, and cityscapes. Many of the illustrations are published for the first time in the Netherlands in these books.
The number of pages per part varies between 208 and 288. On average, it is about 250 pages per part.
The books are in excellent condition. Unwritten and scarcely or not at all read. The books are bound in a beautiful gray hardcover with the signature of the respective composer printed on it. All the books are equipped with a dust jacket. This dust jacket shows discoloration, as can be seen in the photos, but all jackets are otherwise in good, undamaged, and uncrumpled condition.
One publication (Bach) concerns the third edition; three publications (Mahler, Verdi, and Sjostakovitsj) concern the second edition, and the other 20 of the 24 publications are in the first edition (see the overview below).
