Well detailed fold-out sheet featuring a sketch of the Kasba de Bou l'Aouan.
Edmond Douté (1867-1926) was a sociologist from the École d'Alger who published a recognized work in 1900: 'Algerian Islam in 1900', and later taught at the École des lettres of Algiers. He undertook several missions to Morocco, including drafting in 1913-1914 the report 'In a style marked by Symbolist aesthetics, he refined the lively form already chosen for 'Merrâkech'...' (Alain Messaoudi, Dictionary of Orientalists, p. 332).
Period binding in half red morocco, spine with raised bands with title and author in gilt letters. Year of publication at the foot. - Wear at the headcap. Interior fresh and clean. Tear without loss on the margin of the folding plate. Stamp on the title with the mention 'offered by the Morocco committee.' Laid-in insert with the errata slip. Very good condition.
A very fine copy of this collection of historical and ethnological information about Morocco in the early 20th century, by a highly reputed explorer and orientalist.
Work published under the patronage of the General Government of Algeria and the Committee of Morocco.
