Pair of hand-painted ceramic chawan in the Kachō-e style with camellia and bird motifs, signed 泰泉 (Taisen), Japan, dating to circa 1950–1990, with 12.3 cm diameter and 7.8 cm height in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This is a delightful pair of traditional Japanese tea bowls (chawan), each beautifully hand-painted in the Kachō-e (花鳥絵, "flowers and birds painting") style. The bowls feature vibrant, nature-inspired motifs, including blooming camellia flowers in red, white, and purple, as well as leafy branches with delicate red berries and a charming blue-gray bird.
Both bowls are finished with a glossy glaze. The base tone of the floral-patterned bowl is a warm beige, while the bird-patterned bowl features a soft greyish tone. Both designs are executed in a watercolor-like painting style, capturing a gentle and expressive aesthetic typical of traditional Japanese ceramic art.
Each piece bears the artist’s signature "泰泉" (Taisen) on the base, an artisan known for creating expressive, hand-painted works rooted in Japanese ceramic traditions. These bowls are ideal for use in tea ceremonies or as decorative items in a collection.
There are no cracks or chips (ware-kake nashi), ensuring their integrity and value. A beautiful and harmonious set that reflects the elegance and charm of seasonal Japanese themes.

Artist Profile:
Taisen (泰泉) is a Japanese ceramic artist known for his traditional yet vivid hand-painted motifs, often featuring floral and bird imagery. His works are typically marked by a balance of form and decorative expression, reflecting the natural world in both subtle and colorful ways. His signature often appears on the base of the bowl in red calligraphy.
While the exact biographical details of Taisen are not well documented, the style and materials suggest that the artist or studio was active during the Showa to early Heisei period (approximately 1950s–1990s).
The condition is good and there are no noticeable scratches or stains, but there may be small details that have been overlooked. Pottery products may have traces of glaze that occur during the brewing process, but this is normal.
