About
In 1992, Heimo Zobernig created an editioned text work titled Untitled for the Salzburg Art Association. The edition consists of a typewritten (machine-typed) text with handwritten ballpoint pen additions on paper measuring 29.7 × 21 cm, framed, and issued in a limited edition of 30 numbered copies. It was published exclusively through the art association and represents Zobernig's interest in language as an artistic material as well as in reducing artistic gesture to textual form. The work positions itself between conceptual art, analytical reflection, and institutional critique by thematizing the relationship between language, form, and context—a typical approach in Zobernig's work from the early 1990s.
Biography
Heimo Zobernig (*April 30, 1958, in Mauthen, Carinthia) is an Austrian conceptual artist, teacher, and author based in Vienna. He is considered one of the internationally significant figures in contemporary art, combining classical modernism, minimalism, and conceptual strategies with critical reflection on exhibition and perception contexts. His work includes sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, performance, video, and spatial concepts. Zobernig views art as a communicative system in which the conditions of production, context, and reception are addressed; many of his works are untitled and emphasize the relational function of art within society. He has served as a professor of sculpture at several institutions, most recently at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and has received multiple awards.
