Author and importance:
Melchior Cesarotti (1730–1808) was one of the most influential Italian scholars of the Enlightenment. His translation of Homer’s Iliad shaped Italian literary language and influenced major poets such as Foscolo, Leopardi and Monti.
This second edition, reviewed and expanded by Cesarotti himself, is considered the definitive version of his translation and the first to include the Greek text alongside the Italian.
