Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Antique 20‑piece teaware set from Japan, made of egg‑shell porcelain with a mother‑of‑pearl glaze, attributed to Funakoshi and estimated to date from 1990–2000.
Description from the seller
Antique tea service Funakoshi, made in Japan.
Japanese oud ceremonial service, estimated to be 80-90 years old, consisting of a total of 20 separate pieces:
a teapot with a lid
a sugar pot with a lid
a milk jug
6 dinner plates
3 cups with 6 small plates.
The tableware is made of egg porcelain with a pearl-like gloss.
All parts are exuberantly decorated with a band of black lacquer and a matte gold floral pattern arranged in diamond shapes or surrounded by volutes. This decoration, in my opinion, aligns with the Western Art Nouveau movement and was the reason this tableware was purchased or given as a gift at the time.
After the sugar pot, all parts of the dinnerware are in good condition. Three cups are missing. The sugar pot is the only piece of the set that has been used, and as a result, has become slightly damaged over time. On the black lacquer background of the gold decoration, there are four very small but visible spots where the white porcelain underneath shows through (see photo). This minimal damage is also present on one of the plates.
The teapot can hold approximately 0.5 liters; excluding the lid, it is 12 cm high and weighs 380 grams.
The sugar pot is excluding the lid, 9.5 cm high and weighs 225 grams.
The milk jug is 8.5 cm high and weighs 151 grams.
A cup has a diameter of 9 cm and weighs 48 grams; the saucer has a diameter of 13 cm and weighs 72 grams.
A plate has a diameter of 19 cm and weighs 224 grams.
Very delicate to send, therefore an insured shipment is recommended.
