Caravan - Cunning Stunts, Blind Dog, Better by far - Multiple titles - LP - 1975

ou, my friend, are a connoisseur if you know this band. Caravan was expected to be one of the greats in prog but amazingly did not accomplish that. But people like you and me recognize their wonderful music. On offer here is the strangely titled Blind dog at St Dunstans plus Cunning Stunts and Better by Far. As said, Caravan never got to the superstar-status their music deserved. But they are recognized as the founders of the Canterbury scene, a wonderful niche of prog music that blends psychedelic rock, jazz and classical to create a distinctive sound. Their story resembles that of Yes. A few key-players that leave and rejoin the band, keeping it alive with many different line-ups. That makes for very interesting variations of their sound and works, never straying far from the basis. Wikipedia lists twenty different line-ups. In total 15 studio albums were released, 19 (official) live ones and 13 compilations (including a 9-cd set). In the land of grey and pink has 18 different versions. Cunning stunts is their sixth album, recorded in 1975. Blind dog and Better by Far followed in 1976 and 1977. Like their predecessors, the albums, are filled to the brink with music, clocking in at 45 minutes. Long songs, most six minutes or more, that is how we like it. On Better by far they got help from Tony Visconti. On Blind dog at St Dunstans the band thanks Noel Coward. That refers to a quote from the playwright. A child asked him what two coupling dogs were doing. He told the girl one dog was blind so the other one was pushing it all the way to St Dunstans. (Archbishop of Canterbury and patron saint of the blind.) If you listen closely to ‘Jack and Jill’, it is said so at the end. Members of Caravan frequented pubs near St Dunstans Street. The records are in amazing condition. The vinyl is mint. As a big fan of Caravan, I treasured these records. I recorded them on cassette and played them in the car and on walkmans. The sleeves too are mint. Check the pictures, I will add brand new PVC protective outer sleeves. The albums will be preciously packed and swiftly send. Check my reviews, a splendid time is guaranteed for all! Cunning Stunts BTM Records 1003, 1975, Germany. Vinyl mint, sleeve NM (mint but a tiny name inked on top side) Blind Dog: RCA BTM 1007, 1976, UK, vinyl mint, sleeve mint Better by Far: Arista/Sparty 1008, 1977, Netherlands, vinyl mint, sleeve mint
