Almanach Royal, a French-language reference on the Ancien Régime, is a single 714-page work published by Debure in a cuir binding, dating from 1789 with original French text and a notably complete interior in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
Royal Almanac of the common year 1789 presented to His Majesty for the first time in 1699 by Laurent d'Houry, publisher.
Published and issued by Debure, son-in-law of the late d'Houry... With the approval and privilege of the king.
Binding in poor condition with loss of material on the edge, minimal worm traces on the first pages.
Symbols of the monarchy hidden behind a label (possibly to be peeled off with steam by the future owner), as was customary after the revolution to keep royal almanacs for their content and not for their association with the monarchical order.
Fresh and fully equipped interior
The true bible of the Ancien Régime, with exhaustive compositions of all the bodies of the nation.
Births and alliances of kings and queens, cardinals, archbishops, bishops, abbeys, etc., houses, ministries, army, parliaments, notaries, universities, general farmers, post office, etc.
Laurent d'Houry imagines this almanac in 1683 at the request of Louis XIV.
An absolute reference work on the Kingdom of France under the Ancien Régime.
This year is, of course, highly symbolic.
