Description from the seller
Mimmo Rotella for collection at Tiffany # Limited sale within the EU countries
A volume containing 12 Effaçage, unique multiples, by Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006), a leading figure in Decollage, Effaçage, and Artypo; the work, dedicated to Marilyn, is also a fine typographic creation published by Prearo in 2004, measuring 38x40.5x7.5 cm in a plexiglass case, with a total weight of 7.350 kg. The volume consists of 18 loose quartines totaling 72 pages plus 12 Effaçage, printed in 100 copies plus 50 artist's proofs. This is copy No. 29, with a closed format of 36x38.5 cm. Each of the 12 quartines contains a poem by Sebastiano Grasso, an image printed by the Master, and (separately) a numbered and signed Effaçage by Rotella on 600 g Zerkall Butten paper, with blind stamps of the publisher and printer, measuring 36x38.5 cm. (The works, excluding margins, are approximately 23x29 cm.) These are 'unique copies' because they were individually created by the Master, as confirmed by a signed declaration (see documentation). Each work is reproduced in this presentation, allowing comparison between the printed work on the quartine and the Effaçage individually created by the Master contained within the quartine. Some works are compared with edition No. 23, highlighting differences between the two realizations. The last quartine includes a photograph of the Master. The copy is in like-new condition.
Mimmo Rotella was one of the greatest Italian artists of the post-World War II period, who gave a significant boost to modern art with his Decollage, Effaçage, Frottage, and Artypo. He was one of the masters of Nouveau Réalisme and international Pop Art. Among the museums that house his works are: Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome; MART, Rovereto; Los Angeles County Museum; MACRO, Rome; Museo del Novecento, Milan; Mumok, Vienna; Kunsthalle, Mannheim; Centre George Pompidou, Paris; MoMA, New York; Tate Modern, London; Peggy Guggenheim, Venice; and others in Hanover, Buenos Aires, Stuttgart, Lisbon, Nice, and Cologne.
