Exclusive Anglo-Indian walking cane from India with a Silver Clad Kutch repoussé finish, dating to the second half of the 20th century, about 84 cm long, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exclusive Anglo-Indian walking stick - Kutch repoussé 'Silver Clad' (Heavy Silver Mantle) - India - 2nd half 20th century
A very impressive and decorative walking stick in the classic Anglo-Indian style. This object is a testament to Eastern craftsmanship, executed in the famous 'Kutch' technique (Gujarat region).
Construction & Material: What makes this stick special is its construction. It features a 'Silver Clad' design, where a thick layer of silver is hand-hammered (repoussé) and crafted as a mantle around a sturdy metal core.
The owner has the stick professionally cleaned of a heavy, black oxidation layer, which confirms that the outer shell is made of silver (only silver exhibits this deep patina).
The core and threads are made of brass/copper for structural strength, as can be seen in the connections.
The decoration is exuberant and refined, with densely worked floral motifs and leaf patterns typical of Kutch silversmiths. The stick is detachable and consists of several segments that screw together, ideal for travel.
Condition: Excellent/Polished. The bow has recently been thoroughly polished and is in beautiful, lustrous condition. The details of the driving mechanism are very sharp and not "polished over."
Structurally sound; the parts screw together well.
Equipped with a functional rubber cap on the bottom.
Please see the detailed photos for the quality of the drivetrain and finish.
