Art Nouveau WMF Centerpiece – Figural Mother & Child – Engraved Uranium Glass – c.1900
Superb Art Nouveau centerpiece – WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), circa 1900–1906 – silver-plated metal (Britannia metal, hallmark WMFB I/0 a.s) and engraved uranium glass.
A rare and spectacular piece, featuring an allegorical female figure holding a child, surrounded by vegetal motifs typical of Jugendstil.
The richly sculpted base supports two large, finely worked side bowls, as well as a central floral metal rod topped with a large vase / epergne in green uranium glass, decorated with a wheel-engraved depiction of a large blooming flower.
Uranium glass glows under UV light and testifies to the quality of WMF's productions from the Belle Époque.
The WMFB I/0 punch guarantees first-quality silver plating on Britannia metal, used exclusively for WMF's high-end creations.
A prestigious piece, complete, decorative, and impressive by its size — a true Art Nouveau masterpiece.
