Hakuren(白蓮) - Buddhism/Ōuchi-Andon Lamp Light - Lantern - Washi paper, wood, fabric, plastic - Large Japanese Vintage

A beautifully preserved vintage Japanese Ōuchi-Andon lantern, a premium type of traditional Buddhist and Obon lantern used in high-quality household altars (butsudan). The lantern features a hand-painted double-layer washi paper shade (model: “桜 12号 – 二重張 花柄”) and an elegant dark wooden stand with a traditional curved crest. All wooden components, the tassel with jade-style bead, bulb holder, and cord are included, many still wrapped in their original protective bags. This example is unusually complete: it includes the original box, assembly instructions, a quality certification tag, and the original wooden name plaque reading “Sakura – crafted by Kōgyoku (光玉作)”. Such completeness significantly adds to the collectible and historical value of the piece. When illuminated, the lantern emits a warm, atmospheric light that highlights the delicate floral artwork—motifs symbolizing harmony, remembrance, and seasonal beauty in Japanese culture. Artistic & Technical Features Premium Ōuchi-Andon construction Hand-painted floral motifs Double-layer ribbed washi shade Dark wood stand with curved crest Decorative tassel with jade-like bead Original cord, bulb holder, and accessories Original box, instruction sheet, and certification tag Wooden name plaque (Sakura – Kōgyoku) Japan-standard electric cord (A-type plug) Condition Vintage condition, well preserved for its age. The wooden stand is solid and the lamp lights properly. The washi shade shows age-related stains and slight discoloration, mainly on the upper area (visible in photos). No tears, holes, or structural weakness. Minor surface wear consistent with age. The original box shows typical storage wear but remains intact. Overall, this is a high-quality and rare complete set, seldom found in this condition with all original components. Electrical Note (Important for International Buyers) This lantern uses a Japan-standard 100V / A-type plug. For use in Europe or the UK, a voltage converter or a simple plug adapter combined with a low-watt LED bulb is recommended. Please check your local electrical standards before use. (Buyers in the United States can typically use this lamp directly, as 100–120V is compatible.) Period Showa–Heisei (late 20th century) Origin Japan Shipping The washi shade is delicate, so the lantern will be very carefully packaged, and may be double-boxed for safe international transport. Tracking included. A superb, complete example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship—an excellent decorative piece for collectors, interior designers, and lovers of Japanese cultural arts. This is a vintage decorative lantern. It has not been tested for electrical safety. For decorative use only. Not intended for functional lighting.
