Description from the seller
Item Description
This is an authentic Japanese kiseru (smoking pipe) set from the Edo to Taisho period, complete with its original protective case. The kiseru exemplifies traditional Japanese craftsmanship with its elegant design and historical significance.
The pipe features a brass construction with a distinctive spiral pattern (uzumaki design) wrapped around the rau (middle bamboo section), showcasing exceptional aesthetic appeal. The mouthpiece and bowl are made of metal, while the central shaft displays the characteristic wrapped cord decoration that was popular during the Edo period through the Taisho era.
The kiseru comes with its dedicated carrying case, traditionally used by samurai and townspeople during Japan's feudal era. This is the type of authentic smoking pipe that would appear in period dramas depicting old Japan, representing a genuine piece of Japanese cultural history.
The brass construction shows natural patina consistent with age, and there are visible signs of historical use at the pipe's tip, adding to its authenticity and character. The case's cord attachment (netsuke section) has been replaced with new string, while maintaining the traditional style.
This piece serves as an excellent display item for collectors of Japanese antiques and enthusiasts of Edo-period artifacts, offering a tangible connection to Japan's rich cultural heritage.
