A Little Piece of History
José Luis Campos, Spanish visual artist. Born in 1948 in Galicia. Graduated from the Pan-American Institute of Art in 1974 (Buenos Aires, Argentina). He has been dedicated to painting from a very young age. However, it was only in 2020 that he ventured into sculpture, collaborating with the well-known Málaga sculptor Virgilio Rodríguez. He developed techniques and concepts using recyclable materials in most of his works, creating an atmosphere that captivates through the developed concept, in a constant search to find the balance between the real and the imaginable. He often depicts a peaceful line with certain details in his works.
In his paintings, he pays close attention to a limited palette to create a uniform work with few details. A lover of pre-Columbian cultures of South America, specifically Peru, he developed a mixed Indigenist/Abstract technique there several years ago, which now enjoys great acceptance among collectors. His works have generally been acquired by collectors in various countries such as Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Iceland, the USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, England, China, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Norway, France, and Canada. He also has more than 25 solo and group exhibitions internationally, along with awards of honor, nominations, prizes, recognitions, art books, and media coverage in print and television. For example, the book “Historias de Pintores” by the renowned Malagueño writer Joaquín Palmerola, the Itaca art book published in Soria, Spain, contemporary art at the 2003 Seville Art Fair, among others. José Luis Campos signs his paintings by hand on the front and back of the work, in addition to providing a certificate of authenticity to the buyer. It is almost a challenge to describe this multifaceted artist, as he prefers viewers to draw their own conclusions about his work. For Campos, a work is a struggle between the artist and the canvas; one knows where it begins, but never where it ends.
