Description from the seller
Rare green ceramic candelabrum attributed to Gabriele Bicchioni (1905-1987), produced by Deruta.
This green candelabrum was made in the 1930s and stands out for its distinctive Art Deco style. With its fluid curves, it embodies a timeless testament to the excellence of Deruta ceramics. Under the skilled touch of Gabriele Bicchioni, the raw material takes on an elegant form, adorned with blue-green tones and golden accents, making it a piece of notable interest.
The ceramic decorator Gabriele Bicchioni, around the mid-1920s, was hired by the manufactory 'Maioliche Deruta,' where he became a student and close collaborator of David Zipirovic and Alpinolo Magnini. Throughout the 1930s, he collaborated with some of the Umbrian ceramic manufactories that are part of the 'C.I.M.A.' (Italian Association of Artistic Maiolicas), active in Deruta, in the province of Perugia, under the artistic direction first of Alpinolo Magnini and then of Nino Strada.
Some of his ceramics, with elegant shapes and refined metallic reflections, are kept in the Museum of Ceramics of Deruta. His creations, known for their refinement, remain highly sought-after collectible objects.
A coral-shaped chandelier from the 1930s is being offered at auction. The choice of coral is not accidental for the designer: during the same period, other artists in porcelain and ceramics, such as Gio Ponti and Guido Andloviz, who were active at Richard Ginori and Laveno respectively, created vases and other decorative objects reinterpreting the characteristic forms of the marine animal.
Dimensions: 20x15x6.5
