Description from the seller
Karel Appel (1921–2006)
Figure – 1976
Mixed media on paper
Dimensions of the work itself: 23.5 × 39 cm
Enclosed with museum glass (UV-resistant)
With a certificate from Jan Nieuwenhuis Segaar, the very important cobra collector and the recognized Karel Appel authority.
This expressive work from 1976 is a powerful example of Appel's unmistakable visual language: spontaneous line work, explosive colors, and a figure that balances between childlike directness and raw, instinctive energy. The double arrangement (two sheets side by side) gives the whole piece a special rhythm and movement.
The piece is signed and accompanied by an inscription, which further enhances its uniqueness and collectible value.
About the artist
Karel Appel is among the most important Dutch artists of the 20th century and was a co-founder of the influential CoBrA movement (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam).
