The artist Angelica Kauffman was already regarded at a young age as a gifted portrait painter, with bishops and nobles being most of her subjects. Her father, a respected muralist, trained her, and she traveled with him as his assistant. A remarkable period in her education was the three years she spent in Italy, where she visited galleries and copied the works of Italian masters.
