Cross - Brass - 1950-1960

Ancient Russian cross made of solid bronze, dating from the early 20th century according to the traditions of the Old Believers. This piece is of high quality, created using sand casting techniques and hand-finished, with original limatures still clearly visible on the edges: authentic traces of work from old Russian workshops.

Iconography of a solemn scene of the Orthodox Crucifixion: at the top, the Lord of Hosts surrounded by angels; in the center, Christ on Golgotha with inscriptions in Old Church Slavonic; and at the bottom, Golgotha with the skull of Adam and Jerusalem. Behind, a long prayer to the Cross is inscribed in its entirety, as can only be found on the most complete and best-preserved historical specimens.

Old patina, deep reliefs, and significant dimensions (about 35 × 17 cm, 687 g) not only attest to its antiquity but also give this object an impressive scenic presence.
