To savoir this rich and precious century-old experience, one only needs to observe the meticulous work of its artisans, appreciate their attention to the smallest detail, feel the precious materials, and admire the centuries-old tradition masterfully combined with contemporary design. In 2009, Montegrappa returned to the family where it belongs: the Aquila family, the leading producers of exquisitely Italian writing instruments. The year 2015 marks a special anniversary for this dynasty of pen makers. Leopoldo Tullio Aquila Grandfather of Giuseppe Aquila, Montegrappa’s CEO, and father of Gianfranco Aquila, Chairman, Leopoldo Tullio Aquila began his journey by producing ink at the age of 16. Working with a friend and collaborator in the basement of his home, he spent countless hours experimenting with chemicals until he finally created his own ink. From that initial success, he quickly progressed to creating his own pen, which he named the "Super Penna Aquila." It was a short and remarkably successful leap.
