AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Sasanian Kings. AR Drachm.

Zamasp (496-498 AD).

Zamasp ruled the Sasanian Empire from 496 to 498, following the deposition of his brother Kavad I, during a time of political unrest and ideological division. Known for his mild and just character, Zamasp was placed on the throne by the nobility, who sought a more compliant ruler after Kavad’s controversial reforms and association with the Mazdakite movement. His short reign was marked by attempts to restore internal stability and traditional values, but his authority remained fragile and dependent on aristocratic support. When Kavad returned from exile with Hephthalite aid, Zamasp was swiftly overthrown, ending his brief and largely conciliatory rule.

Very fine coin of this rare ruler.

I am selling to rid my private collection. See images for a correct impression.
