Elegant mid‑20th‑century Italian hand mirror in 800 silver with its original fitted case, bearing export mark ITALY and 800 fineness, a maker’s mark in an oval cartouche, dimensions 11.3 cm long and 6.8 cm mirror diameter, weight 38 g, in good condition with age‑related signs and a deteriorated mirror.
Description from the seller
Elegant Italian hand mirror crafted in 800 silver, complete with its original fitted case.
The piece bears the export mark “ITALY” and a separately struck “800” fineness mark. The maker’s mark appears in an oval cartouche and follows the official Italian hallmarking system used between 1935 and 1968, prior to the introduction of the later star-marked system. The mark consists of a numerical identifier and a provincial letter “F”, most likely referring to Firenze (Florence) or Ferrara.
Based on the design, proportions and typical production of similar vanity items, the mirror can be confidently dated to the mid-20th century, most likely the 1940s–1950s.
The mirror was acquired in France, which is fully consistent with the strong export of Italian silver vanity items to the French market during this period.
The silver parts are in excellent condition, with no dents or repairs. The mirror glass shows age-related deterioration, typical for original, unrestored mirrors of this era. The original case is preserved, adding to the collectible appeal.
