Description from the seller

A very fine antique 4/4 violin, labeled D. Nicolaus Amati fecit Bononiae 1739. The instrument is in ready to play condition with some small repaired cracks on the top, new rosewood set up, new master made bridge and new strings. The violin has straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of strongly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. The inlaid purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden brown varnish.

The two pieces maple back measures 359 mm.
The total length of the violin is 589 mm.
The width of the upper bouts: 162 mm; middle bouts: 113 mm; lower bouts: 201 mm.

The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
