We present to you the LEGO Architecture interpretation of one of the most famous landmarks ever built: the Eiffel Tower! The original 324-meter-tall masterpiece of wrought-iron engineering was designed and built by the French entrepreneur Gustave Eiffel. It formed the monumental entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair, held in Paris to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. During construction, the 18,038 iron elements forming the tower’s skeleton were first bolted together at Eiffel’s production facility on the outskirts of Paris and then transported to the site. There they were positioned with steam-powered cranes operated from the elevator shafts and connected with more than 2.5 million individual rivets. This construction proved extremely stable and has withstood storms, gales, and other natural forces over the years unscathed. Today the Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most famous landmarks, drawing millions of curious visitors from around the world each year.
