Description from the seller
Triumph of Galatea
School: Flamenca (17th century)
Technique: Oil on panel
Style: Mythological Baroque
Mythological-themed work inspired by the famous passage of the birth and triumph of the nymph Galatea. The scene shows the goddess emerging from the waters, surrounded by cherubs and marine figures, while at the top, several cupids hold a wide red cloth that waves in the air, adding dynamism and depth to the composition. The treatment of the bodies, soft lighting, and the movement of the figures are characteristic of Italian Baroque, with a notable attention to the balance between drama and elegance. The blue tones of the sea and sky contrast with the reds and golds of the veil and floral crowns, creating an atmosphere of joy and exaltation.
The frame, of baroque style, is made of carved wood and gilded with fine gold, featuring vegetal ornamentation and volumetric scrolls in relief that give the piece a strong visual presence.
Measurements: 44 x 30 cm
Measurements with frame: 63 x 51 cm
The frame comes as a gift. It may be damaged during transport even if it is properly packaged.
