Vase - Bamboo - Japan (No reserve price)

This is a finely handwoven Japanese bamboo flower basket (hanakago), accompanied by a removable inner bamboo vase insert. The basket is constructed using wide and narrow bamboo strips in an openwork weaving technique, creating a light yet sculptural form. The natural color variation of the bamboo and the carefully twisted handle demonstrate traditional Japanese basketry craftsmanship. The removable bamboo insert allows the basket to be used safely for flower arrangements, while also making it suitable as a decorative object or sculptural interior piece. Based on its materials, weaving style, and overall construction, this piece is estimated to date from the mid to late Showa period (circa 1950s–1970s). Such bamboo baskets were often used in tea ceremony contexts (chabana) as well as in traditional Japanese interiors. Height: 23 cm Width: 22 cm Depth: 19 cm Weight 345 g ⸻ Condition The basket is in good vintage condition. Minor signs of age and natural patina consistent with bamboo material are present, including slight color variation and small surface irregularities. There are no major cracks, breaks, or structural damages. The handle and weaving remain stable and intact.
