Oomius (Simon) was born in 1630 in Heenvliet. He served for many years as a minister in Purmerland, near Purmerend. After some time serving as a military chaplain, he spent a long period in office in the city of Kampen. There, he married a daughter of Burgemeester Worst. Mr. Oomius was a learned man, well-versed in the classics, Church Fathers, reformers, and English practical authors. He also knew Roman Catholic theology and fiercely opposed it. He wrote at least 30 books, including several very extensive ones on the practice of godliness, in which he was particularly knowledgeable.
