Description from the seller
Cypriot Archaic Kore Head in Limestone with export licence
Culture:
Cypriot Archaic
Dimension : 10cm
Dating:
6th century B.C.
Description:
Female votive head carved in limestone (Cypriot calcarenite), fragment of an Archaic kore statue. The face is rendered frontally, with almond-shaped eyes, straight nose, and a faint archaic smile. Side locks are arranged in compact rows of braids, typical of Cypriot Archaic sculpture from Golgoi and Idalion.
A horizontal ridge beneath the chin marks the remains of a necklace — a distinctive feature of Cypriot votive figures. The vertical striations at the back suggest the draped veil falling behind the head.
Natural calcareous patina and surface erosion consistent with age.
Condition:
Upper fragment of a statue, facial details partially eroded but still legible. No modern restoration.
Provenance:
German private collection 1970
