Description from the seller
This large emerald-green double-crystal vase, model “Jupiter,” is a production of the Val Saint Lambert Crystal Works, dating from the 1950s–1960s. It is a prestige piece, presumably made as part of a special commission, as indicated by inscriptions engraved at the base: the mention “Centrale Générale,” accompanied by the names of the cities of Huy, Waremme and Liège. In terms of its dimensions, decorative richness, and the quality of its execution, this vase fully sits within the tradition of the great decorative pieces produced by the Belgian manufacturer in the mid-20th century.
The vase has an architectural, balanced silhouette. The neck, slightly flared, opens harmoniously onto a generous body, richly carved with regular geometric patterns. These take the form of six-sided lozenges with softened and flattened facets, creating a play of facets that catches and diffuses light with depth. The crystal is overlaid with an intense emerald green: this technique involves layering a colored crystal over a clear crystal, then shaping the decoration so that, in places, the underlying transparency shows through. The octagonal, slender stem provides the transition to a square foot with beveled sides, both stable and decorative, reinforcing the monumental character of the whole.
The overall condition of the vase is excellent. The crystal’s shine is intact and the edges remain crisply defined. However, there are a few signs of wear, a small chip on an edge of the leg, and a more noticeable nick along an edge of the square base. These flaws are localized and do not affect either the readability of the decoration or the visual presence of the piece.
Founded in 1826, the Val Saint Lambert crystal works experiences, in the 1950s–1960s, a period of renewal after World War II, combining mastery of traditional techniques with modernization of forms. Large double-cut and richly faceted pieces, such as this model “Jupiter,” bear witness to the factory’s intention to perpetuate a high level of artisanal excellence while responding to institutional or commemorative orders. At that time, Val Saint Lambert remains a major player in European crystal, recognized for the quality of its deep cuts, the purity of its materials, and the expressive strength of its creations.
The dimensions are:
- Height: 30.4 centimeters,
- Width: 14 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 12.3 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 10.5 centimeters,
- Weight: 3200 grams.
The vase will be wrapped with great care and shipped quickly, securely, and insured. Local pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
