AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Lorio Vivarelli was born in Fognano di Montale (Pistoia) in 1922. He resumed his activity as a sculptor in 1946, interrupted by the war and imprisonment, which later culminated in a fruitful relationship with architect Michelucci in 1951 and with architect Stonorov in 1955. Following these encounters, Vivarelli's artistic training oriented towards large sculptures that complement architecture and integrate into the city, such as the Crucifixes in Florence, Pistoia, and Larderello, and the fountains in Philadelphia and Detroit. His deep attachment to nature and his homeland has yielded very successful works, where the creative process of extracting form from within the material is evident. An example is the San Marino coinage in 1977 and the retrospective exhibition 'Man and His Land.' Later, moving works such as 'The Voice' and the experience of medal making followed. In his medals, sculpture has acquired a new function; it has become the object within which the artist finds the memory and revelation of his own history. The tension that breaks the surface with sharp cuts and sinuous cracks constitutes the leitmotif of Vivarelli's medal art.

Execution carried out by the Stefano Johnson establishment in Milan, Italy.
