Majolica ceramic goblet from Italy in good, used condition with minor signs of age, dating ca. 1880–1920, height about 23 cm and diameter 10 cm, featuring detailed Renaissance-style polychrome reliefs of the three Evangelists with their attributes, a yellow lattice relief at the foot, and a hand-painted blue anchor mark on the base.
Description from the seller
An impressive, artistically crafted goblet from Italian Majolika. The object impresses with its detailed relief work and the classic polychrome painting in the style of the Renaissance.
The main decor features the portraits of the three Evangelists, each labeled with their respective attributes and Latin names.
MARCVS (Markus with the lion)
Matevi (Matthew with the angel)
JOANNES (Johannes with the eagle)
The foot is decorated with a plastic yellow lattice relief, while the shaft and edges display classic scrollwork and leaf ornaments in cobalt blue and ochre.
On the underside, there is a hand-painted mark in the shape of a blue anchor. This indicates a renowned Italian manufacturer (in the style of Sesto Fiorentino or Venice) that specializes in high-quality historicist ceramics.
