Qimbaya Ceramic Vessel. Spanish Import License.

Vessel. Vessel with three handles and face with nose ring. Quimbaya culture (500-1500 AD) Ceramic. 24,7 cm. The piece belongs to the Quimbaya culture (500-1500 AD), one of the most representative pre-Hispanic civilizations of present-day Colombia. It is made of ceramic. The vessel’s shape suggests it may have been used for liquid storage or as a funerary urn, a common function of pre-Hispanic ceremonial containers. Although the Quimbaya were primarily known for their goldwork, they also produced high-quality ceramics with symbolic decorations. These pieces may have been associated with funerary rituals, offerings, or ceremonial use among the ruling elite. In Quimbaya ceramics, facial representations are often linked to shamanic figures or tutelary deities. It is a globular vessel with three handles and a modeled relief face on the front. The facial representation features closed or semi-closed eyes and a nose ring, a distinctive element of Quimbaya elites. The presence of the nose ring indicates high status, as this type of ornament was commonly associated with leaders or shamans in Quimbaya culture. Provenance: Ex collection Hans Lubos (Germany; before 1973) Attached import certificate from Spanish Ministry of Culture. The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days. Important: For destinations out of Spanish territory: all our objects will be shipped after obtaining CERTIFICATE OF EXPORTATION by Ministry of Culture of Spain. We inform our clients that it may take between 4-8 weeks.
